Course Highlights

This online engineering PDH course presents the laws and rules of ethics and professional responsibility governing the practice of engineering in the State of Maryland. Excerpts from Title 14 of the Maryland Codes and Title 9, Subtitle 23 of the Maryland Regulations which relate to the rules of profession conduct, continuing education requirements, proper use of seal and other pertinent regulatory provisions are presented in this course.

Engineering ethics is (1) the study of moral issues and decisions confronting individuals and organizations involved in engineering and (2) the study of related questions about moral conduct, character, ideals and relationships of peoples and organizations involved in technological development (Martin and Schinzinger, Ethics in Engineering).

Since engineers are faced with frequent moral and ethical dilemmas while practicing their engineering profession, this course will provide you with moral and ethical guidance in your decision making process. Most importantly, it will provide you with insight on how to conduct, respect and protect your engineering practice with the utmost professionalism.

This 2 PDH online course is applicable to Professional Engineers licensed in the State of Maryland and who are required to demonstrate continuing professional competency in engineering ethics as a condition of their license renewal. For each renewal period, every licensee must complete sixteen (16) professional development hours, at least one of which must be relative to the rules of professional responsibility, conduct and ethics.

COURSE TITLE: Management of Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems
COURSE NO: C05-007
COURSE PROVIDER: Gilbert Gedeon, P.E.
Management of Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems
Course Highlights

This online engineering PDH course provides guidance on the management of onsite wastewater treatment systems. It discusses the elements of a successful management program as well as the types of management entities in charge of the program.

Effective management is the key to ensuring that the requisite level of environmental and public health protection for any given community is achieved. It is the single most important factor in any comprehensive wastewater management program. Without effective management, even the most costly and advanced technologies will not be able to meet the goals of the community.

Numerous technologies are currently available to meet a broad range of wastewater treatment needs. Without proper management, however, these treatment technologies will fail to perform as designed and efforts to protect public health and the environment will be compromised.

This 5 PDH  online course is applicable to civil and environmental engineers, as well as design and construction personnel involved with the design, installation and management of onsite wastewater treatment systems.

Learning Objectives

This PE continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Development of a successful management program
  • Familiarization with the types of management entities
  • Understanding of the management program components

COURSE TITLE: Wastewater Treatment System Selection
COURSE NO: C02-009
COURSE PROVIDER: Gilbert Gedeon, P.E.
Wastewater Treatment System Selection
Course Highlights

This online engineering PDH course provides guidance on the selection process of the subsurface wastewater infiltration system. It describes various steps involved in the selection process including understanding of the prevailing design conditions, matching these conditions to system performance, establishing design boundaries and boundary loadings, evaluating the receiving environment and mapping out the site.

Selecting the appropriate system type, size, and location at the site depends on the wastewater flow and composition information, site- and landscape-level assessments, performance requirements, and the array of available technology options. Key to selecting, sizing, and siting the system are identifying the desired level of performance and ensuring that the effluent quality at the performance boundaries meets the expected performance requirements.
