Design of Base Isolation System for Buildings & Bridges
This online engineering PDH course presents a comprehensive knowledge of the structural analysis, design, and installation of base isolation systems for buildings and bridges.
Seismic isolation is a modern technique used to seismically isolate structures from the ground at the base level (also known as base isolation.) Isolation is achieved by introducing the isolating system at the base or at selected locations in order to reduce the transfer of the ground motion effects to the structure. The significant advantage of seismic isolation is its ability to minimize the damage usually associated with earthquake events.
Isolators for seismic isolation systems come in many different forms and designs. Lead-rubber bearing isolators are the most popular and perhaps the most economical. This course will mainly focus on seismic isolation systems that use lead-rubber bearing isolators.
This 1 PDH course is applicable to structural and civil engineers as well as other technical professionals interested in learning more about base isolation systems for buildings and bridges.
This PE continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Understanding the seismic isolation concept
- Learning about the shape, function, and components of the lead-rubber bearing isolator
- Familiarizing with the analysis of seismically isolated structures
- Gaining a general overview of the guidelines for designing isolation systems
- Familiarizing with the design process of seismically isolated structures
- Learning about the installation of isolation systems
- Gaining practical experience through hands-on design examples
