Harmonics and Inverters

COURSE NO: E04-050
PDH CREDIT: 4
Harmonics and Inverters
Course Highlights

This online engineering PDH course provides basic information on inverter types, PWM, micro and mini non-linear loads and harmonic filtering.

Static UPS are almost perfect electric generators. They are highly reliable and, by nature, ensure an uninterrupted power supply. Regarding its electrical features, the inverter possesses characteristics superior to those of the mains, in terms of frequency and voltage stability. The only doubtful feature is its ability to provide a sinusoidal voltage regardless of the shape of the current drawn by the load.

The objective of this course is to elaborate on this topic and to show that modern inverters are excellent generators of sinusoidal voltage even when they supply non-linear loads. This is considered normal since UPS devices are designed and very often utilized to supply computer/microprocessor systems which draw non-sinusoidal currents.

This course is applicable to electrical engineers who are interested in learning about inverter technology and its impact on the quality of electrical energy, especially harmonics.
