Applied Wind Load Design for Rooftop, Wall-Mounted, and Freestanding Structures - ASCE 7-22

This online engineering PDH course introduces the application of ASCE 7-22 wind load provisions for rooftop, wall-mounted, and freestanding structures.
As wind-induced failures of building appurtenances continue to be a significant source of structural damage during severe wind events, proper wind load evaluation, anchorage design, and load-path verification have become essential for ensuring structural safety, code compliance, and resilient design.
This course examines the principles of wind load determination for building appurtenances and explains how the provisions of ASCE 7-22 and ACI 318-22 are applied to rooftop equipment, wall-mounted components, and freestanding structures. In addition, this course covers enclosure classification and internal pressure effects, velocity pressure calculations, exposure categories, roof zoning, components and cladding versus MWFRS classification, wind pressure determination, force coefficients, projected area calculations, anchorage design, load-path continuity, LRFD and ASD load combinations, dynamic amplification, vortex shedding considerations, serviceability evaluation, common wind design deficiencies, and engineering judgment for code-compliant design.
