Professional Engineers


The state requirements for West Virginia Professional Engineers are provided below:

PDH's Required:

Renewal Period:

Biennial by December 31 of even years

Course Pre-approval:

The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education courses. You must select a course activity that meets your State Board criteria.

Sponsor Pre-approval:

The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education sponsors/providers.

Course Applicability:

The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of engineering and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.

Online PDH's:

There are no limitations on the number of PDHs earned online.

PDH Deferral:

A maximum of 15 PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.

Professional Land Surveyors


The state requirements for West Virginia Professional Land Surveyors are provided below:

Annual by June 30

Course Pre-approval:

The Board does not pre-approve continuing education courses or activities with the exception of courses or activities related to the minimum technical standards and professional ethics.

CED is currently planning on seeking approval of courses related to the minimum technical standards and professional ethics with the West Virginia Licensing Board.

Sponsor Pre-approval:

The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education sponsors/providers.

Course Applicability:

The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of land surveying and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.

Every four (4) years:

  • A minimum of 2 PDHs must be earned in the minimum technical standards in courses or activities sponsored or approved by the Board; and
  • A minimum of 2 PDHs must be earned in professional ethics for land surveyors at a seminar sponsored or approved by the board.
Online PDH's:

A maximum of 4 PDHs may be earned online each renewal period in courses or activities other than the minimum technical standards and professional ethics for land surveyors.

PDH Deferral:

A maximum of 8 PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.
