Hydrostatics, Hydrodynamics and Hydrualic Machines

This online engineering PDH video presentation will present as an introduction to fluid statics, hydrodynamics and hydraulic machines for attendees with little or no fluids or hydraulics background. This course transitions from hydraulics concepts to laws, mathematical equations, sample problems and practical hydraulics case study examples.
The confluence of concepts of hydrostatics and hydrodynamics is leveraged to show how–with basic understanding of these concepts and principles–games can be developed to annunciate fluid flow rate in form of the rise of an “indicating fluid “ in a monometer. The concept of buoyancy is explained and illustrated, uniquely, through a hot air balloon design example. Several water (hydraulic) horsepower equations are covered, their differences and specific applications are explained. Hydraulic machines, i.e., pumps and hydro-turbines are discussed; their operations and applications are explained and illustrated through numerical case studies. Hydraulic systems analyses are explained and illustrated through detailed case study.
This 8 PDH video presentation is intended to serve as a refresher for mechanical engineers as well as other technical professionals about the basics and an introduction to intermediate level knowledge on the subject of hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, and hydraulic machines.
- Applying principles and techniques associated with fluid or hydrostatics.
- Understanding, analyzing, and solving hydrodynamics problems.
- Knowing the distinction between various types of hydraulic machines.
- Specifying and selecting hydraulic machines for specific system head requirements.
- Distinguishing between turbulent and laminar flows.
- Analyzing open channel flow problems.
- Familiarizing yourself with the frictional head losses in fluid flow systems.
- Analyzing power and energy in hydroelectric systems
