Texas State Requirements
Professional Engineers
The state requirements for Texas Professional Engineers are provided below:
Renewal Period:
Biennial by January and July of even and odd years
Course Pre-approval:
The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education courses. You must select a course activity that meets your State Board criteria.
Sponsor Pre-approval:
The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education sponsors/providers.
Course Applicability:
The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of engineering and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.
Of the 30 PDHs required:
- A minimum of 2 PDH must be earned in professional ethics, roles and responsibilities of professional engineering, or Texas Engineering Practice Acts and Rules.
Online PDH's:
There are no limitations on the number of PDHs earned online.
PDH Deferral:
No PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.
Professional Land Surveyors
The state requirements for Texas Professional Land Surveyors are provided below:
Renewal Period:
Biennial by January and July of even and odd years

The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education sponsors/providers.
Course Applicability:
The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of land surveying and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.
Of the 12 PDHs required:
- A minimum of 4 PDHs must be earned in professional ethics, roles and responsibilities of professional land surveying, case law impacting professional surveying in Texas, or Texas Land Surveying Practice Acts and Rules.
Online PDH's:
There are no limitations on the number of PDHs earned online.
PDH Deferral:
No PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.
