Professional Engineers


The state requirements for South Dakota Professional Engineers are provided below:

PDH's Required:
30
Renewal Period:

Biennial based on the licensee's original date of licensure

Course Pre-approval:

The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education courses. You must select a course activity that meets your State Board criteria.

Sponsor Pre-approval:

The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education sponsors/providers.

Course Applicability:

The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of engineering and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.

Of the 30 PDHs required:

  • A minimum of 20 PDHs must be earned in technical subjects that lead to further professional development in the licensee's field of practice; and
  • A maximum of 10 PDHs may be earned in professional management subjects, including total quality management, professional business practice and ethics.
Online PDH's:

There are no limitations on the number of PDHs earned online.

PDH Deferral:

A maximum of 15 PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.
