Rhode Island State Requirements
Professional Engineers
The Rhode Island State Board currently does not mandate continuing education requirements for Rhode Island Professional Engineers.
Professional Land Surveyors
The state requirements for Rhode Island Professional Land Surveyors are provided below:
Renewal Period:
Biennial by June 30 of odd years
Course Pre-approval:
The State Board does pre-approve courses although the licensee can take the course prior to Board approval provided that the licensee subsequently submits the course approval. However, if the licensee selects a pre-approved course, then they are assured that the course will be accepted by the State Board.
CED is currently planning on seeking course approval with the Rhode Island Licensing Board.
Sponsor Pre-approval:
The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education sponsors/providers.
Course Applicability:
The course or educational activity must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of land surveying and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.
Online PDHs:
A maximum of 10 PDHs may be earned in correspondence courses, internet courses, or courses available from online sources.
PDH Deferral:
A maximum of 10 PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.
