North Dakota State Requirements
Professional Engineers
The state requirements for North Dakota Professional Engineers are provided below:
Biennial by December 31 of even years
The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education courses. You must select a course activity that meets your State Board criteria.
The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education sponsors/providers.
The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of engineering and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.
Of the 30 PDHs required:
- A minimum of 20 PDHs must be earned in technical subjects that directly safeguard the public's health, safety, and welfare, including technical professional management subjects such as total quality process or technical engineering software training;
- A maximum of 10 PDHs may be earned in nontechnical professional related subjects; and
- A minimum of 1 PDH must be earned in engineering ethics/professional conduct.
There are no limitations on the number of PDH's earned online.
A maximum of 15 PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.
Professional Land Surveyors
The state requirements for North Dakota Professional Land Surveyors are provided below:

The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of land surveying and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.
Of the 30 PDHs required:
- A minimum of 20 PDHs must be earned in technical subjects that directly safeguard the public's health, safety, and welfare, including technical professional management subjects such as total quality process or technical land surveying software training;
- A maximum of 10 PDHs may be earned in nontechnical professional related subjects; and
- A minimum of 1 PDH must be earned in land surveying ethics/professional conduct.
A maximum of 15 PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.
