North Carolina State Requirements
Professional Engineers
The state requirements for North Carolina Professional Engineers are provided below:
Course Pre-approval:
The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education courses. You must select a course activity that meets your State Board criteria.
Sponsor Pre-approval:
Effective January 1, 2025, the State Board does not pre-approve continuing education sponsors/providers.
Course Applicability:
The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of engineering and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.
Of the 15 PDHs required:
- A minimum of 1 PDH must be earned in engineering ethics/professional conduct.
Online PDH's:
There are no limitations on the number of PDH's earned online.
PDH Deferral:
A maximum of 15 PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.
Professional Land Surveyors
The state requirements for North Carolina Professional Land Surveyors are provided below:

The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of land surveying and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.
Of the 15 PDHs required:
- A minimum of 1 PDH must be earned in land surveying ethics/professional conduct; and
- A minimum of 1 PDH must be earned in the NC Standards of Practice for Land Surveying.
Online PDH's:
There are no limitations on the number of PDH's earned online.
PDH Deferral:
A maximum of 15 PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.
