Maryland State Requirements
Professional Engineers
The state requirements for Maryland Professional Engineers are provided below:
Biennial based on the licensee's original date of licensure
CED is a Maryland-approved continuing education sponsor/provider.
The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of engineering and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.
Of the 16 PDHs required, a minimum of 1 PDH must be related to one of the following:
- Awareness of ethical concerns and conflicts related to the engineering practice;
- Enhanced familiarity with the code of conduct for professional engineers;
- Understanding of standards of care related to the engineering practice; or
- Laws and regulations applicable to the practice of engineering in Maryland.
There are no limitations on the number of PDHs earned online.
Professional Land Surveyors
The state requirements for Maryland Professional Land Surveyors are provided below:
Biennial based on the licensee's original date of licensure
CED is currently planning on seeking sponsor/provider approval with the Maryland Licensing Board.
The course must maintain and enhance professional competency of professional land surveyors or property line surveyors and foster improvement, advancement, and extension of professional skills and knowledge related to the practice of land surveying or property line surveying.
Of the 24 PDHs required, a minimum of 4 PDHs shall be related to one or more of the following:
- Minimum Standards of Practice;
- Legal cases, commentaries and other related materials applicable to the MD law of land boundaries;
- The awareness of ethical concerns and conflicts;
- An enhanced familiarity with the codes of conduct;
- An understanding of standards of practice or care; or
- Similar topics aimed at maintaining, improving, or expanding the skills set and knowledge necessary to practice land surveying services or property line surveying services in the most ethical and responsible manner.
