Kentucky State Requirements

Professional Engineers


The state requirements for Kentucky Professional Engineers are provided below:

PDH's Required:
30
Renewal Period:

Biennial by June 30 as follows:

  • Odd years for engineers whose last names begin with one of the letters A through K
  • Even years for engineers whose last names begin with one of the letters L through Z

The reporting period is the two calendar years (Jan. 1 - Dec. 31) prior to the June 30 license renewal.

Course Pre-approval:
The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education courses. You must select a course activity that meets your State Board criteria.
Sponsor Pre-approval:
The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education sponsors/providers.
Course Applicability:

The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of engineering and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.

Online PDH's:

There are no limitations on the number of PDHs earned online.

PDH Deferral:
A maximum of 15 PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.

Professional Land Surveyors


The state requirements for Kentucky Professional Land Surveyors are provided below:

Renewal Period:

Biennial by June 30 as follows:

  • Odd years for engineers whose last names begin with one of the letters A through K
  • Even years for engineers whose last names begin with one of the letters L through Z

The reporting period is the two calendar years (Jan. 1 - Dec. 31) prior to the June 30 license renewal.

Course Pre-approval:
The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education courses with the exception of courses related to the Standards of Practice, Ethics and the Code of Conduct. Otherwise, you must select a course activity that meets your State Board criteria. 

CED is currently planning on seeking course approval with the Kentucky Licensing Board.
Sponsor Pre-approval:
The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education sponsors/providers.
Course Applicability:

The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of land surveying and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.

Of the 16 PDHs required, 4 PDHs must:

  • Relate to the Standards of Practice, Ethics, and the Code of Conduct;
  • Be taken once every four (4) years; and
  • Count towards the 16-PDH requirement in the reporting period that is taken.
Online PDH's:
There are no limitations on the number of PDHs earned online.
PDH Deferral:
A maximum of 8 PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.
