Iowa State Requirements
Professional Engineers
The state requirements for Iowa Professional Engineers are provided below:
Renewal Period:
Biennial by December 31 based on the original date of licensure
Course Pre-approval:
The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education courses. You must select a course activity that meets your State Board criteria.
Sponsor Pre-approval:
The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education sponsors/providers.
Course Applicability:
The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of engineering and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.
Of the 30 PDHs required:
- A minimum of 2 PDH must be earned in engineering ethics/professional conduct.
Online PDH's:
A maximum of 10 PDHs in non-live interactive online courses may be earned each renewal period.
CED's Live Webinars will satisfy the requirement of obtaining the remaining PDH's through live interaction type instruction.
PDH Deferral:
A maximum of 15 PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.
Professional Land Surveyors
The state requirements for Iowa Professional Land Surveyors are provided below:

A maximum of 10 PDHs in non-live interactive online courses may be earned each renewal period.
PDH Deferral:
A maximum of 15 PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.
