District of Columbia
Professional Engineers
The state requirements for the District of Columbia Professional Engineers are provided below:
Renewal Period:
Biennial by August 31 of even years
Course Pre-approval:
The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education courses. You must select a course activity that meets your State Board criteria.
Sponsor Pre-approval:
The DC Board states that "a continuing education program shall be deemed approved by the Board if the offering is approved by a licensing board of another jurisdiction that regulates the practice of land surveying or professional engineering
”. CED is an approved sponsor in the States of Florida, Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey and New York.
Course Applicability:
The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of land surveying and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.
Of the 20 PDHs required:
- A minimum of 1 PDH must be earned in professional ethics.
Online PDH's:
There are no limitations on the number of PDHs earned online.
PDH Deferral:
No PDH may be carried over into the next renewal period.
Professional Land Surveyors

CED is currently planning on seeking approval with other State Licensing Boards.

The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of land surveying and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.
Of the 12 PDHs required:
- A minimum of 8 PDHs must be earned in surveying education specific to the District of Columbia; and
- A minimum of 1 PDH must be earned in professional ethics.
Online PDH's:
There are no limitations on the number of PDHs earned online.
PDH Deferral:
No PDH may be carried over into the next renewal period.
