Building Envelope Wind Design for Low-Rise Buildings per ASCE 7-22

This online engineering PDH course examines components and cladding (C&C) wind design for low-rise commercial buildings in accordance with ASCE/SEI 7-22.
Components and cladding are building-envelope elements that can experience localized wind pressures significantly higher than those used for the main wind-force-resisting system, making their proper design essential to wind-resistant building performance.
C&C wind pressures vary with effective wind area, pressure zones, external and internal pressure coefficients, and element location, with roof edges, corners, wall corners, and openings often experiencing critical localized pressures that require careful evaluation.
This course covers ASCE/SEI 7-22 Chapter 30 requirements, wind parameters, effective wind area, pressure zones, pressure coefficients, pressure-to-force conversion, and the design of roof and wall panels, secondary framing, fasteners, windows, doors, overhead doors, and mullions. It also emphasizes practical pressure schedules, delegated design criteria, product submittals, and review-ready design documentation.
This 2 PDH online course is applicable to civil and structural engineers, as well as other technical professionals who are interested in learning more about components and cladding wind design for low-rise commercial buildings.
This PE continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Understanding the distinction between C&C and MWFRS wind design under ASCE/SEI 7-22
- Familiarizing with ASCE/SEI 7-22 Chapter 30 requirements for low-rise commercial buildings
- Learning how to determine wind parameters, effective wind area, pressure zones, and C&C design pressures
- Learning how to calculate wall and roof C&C pressures for flat and low-slope gable roofs
- Understanding C&C pressure demands for panels, framing, fasteners, windows, doors, and mullions
- Learning how to convert C&C pressures into attachment forces, line loads, and fastener demands
- Familiarizing with enclosure classification, corner-zone suction, delegated design, and pressure communication
- Understanding C&C wind design documentation requirements for plan review and delegated design
Once you complete your course review, you need to take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of ten (10) questions to earn 2 PDH credits. The quiz will be based on the entire document.
Upon successful completion of the quiz, print your Certificate of Completion instantly. (Note: if you are paying by check or money order, you will be able to print it after we receive your payment.)
