Alabama State Requirements
Professional Engineers
The state requirements for Alabama Professional Engineers are provided below:
Renewal Period:
Biennial by December 31 of odd years
Course Pre-approval:
The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education courses. You must select a course activity that meets your State Board criteria.
Sponsor Pre-approval:
The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education sponsors/providers.
Course Applicability:
The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of engineering and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.
Online PDHs:
There are no limitations on the number of PDHs earned online.
PDH Deferral:
A maximum of 15 PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.
Professional Land Surveyors
The state requirements for Alabama Professional Land Surveyors are provided below:

The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education sponsors/providers.
Course Applicability:
The course must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of land surveying and necessary to safeguard the health, safety, property and welfare of the public.
Of the 30 PDHs required:
- A minimum of 4 PDHs must be earned in the AL Standards of Practice for Surveying; and
- 1 PDH must be earned in professional ethics.
Online PDHs:
There are no limitations on the number of PDHs earned online.
PDH Deferral:
A maximum of 15 PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period.
