This course examines the principles of over-pressure protection for pressurized vessels. It explains the selection, sizing, and inspection of pressure relief devices.
Pressure relief devices protect vessels, piping systems, and equipment from excessive internal pressure that can result in equipment failure or catastrophic accidents. Effective over-pressure protection requires understanding engineering principles, credible over-pressure scenarios, regulatory requirements, and the operating characteristics of various pressure relief devices.
This course covers the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) requirements for over-pressure protection, credible scenario analysis, pressure relief device selection, design calculations, set pressure determination, inspection practices, and maintenance considerations. It also emphasizes engineering documentation, safety, and practical approaches for designing and evaluating over-pressure protection systems in upstream, midstream, and downstream facilities.
