Generative Design & AI-Assisted Optimization For Mechanical Components

COURSE NO: M01-029
PDH CREDIT: 1
COURSE PROVIDER: Brian Lisiewski, P.E.
Generative Design & AI-Assisted Optimization For Mechanical Components
Course Highlights

This online engineering PDH course examines the principles, constraints, and verification practices associated with generative design and AI-assisted optimization of mechanical components.

Generative design is a computational approach that uses algorithms to automatically generate optimized component geometries based on specified engineering objectives and constraints.

AI-generated geometries can be complex and non-intuitive, requiring clearly defined design constraints, rigorous verification, and engineering oversight to maintain structural integrity, public safety, and compliance with applicable requirements.

This course covers structural loads, stress limits, fatigue requirements, safety factors, and manufacturability constraints for additive manufacturing, CNC machining, casting, and forging. It also emphasizes Verification & Validation (V&V) using FEA and physical testing, along with risk management, documentation, and configuration control to support safe and professionally defensible AI-assisted designs.

This 1 PDH online course is applicable to mechanical engineers and manufacturing engineers, as well as other technical professionals who are interested in learning more about generative design and AI-assisted optimization of mechanical components.

Learning Objectives

This PE continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Understanding the principles of generative design and topology optimization for mechanical components
  • Familiarizing with structural loads, stress limits, fatigue life, safety factors, and design codes used as generative design constraints
