Electric Vehicle Lithium-Ion Battery Life Cycle Management

COURSE NO: M04-052
PDH CREDIT: 4
COURSE PROVIDER: Ahmad Hammouz, P.Eng.
Electric Vehicle Lithium-Ion Battery Life Cycle Management
Course Highlights

This online engineering PDH course provides a comprehensive introduction to the life cycle management of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) used in electric vehicles (EVs).

This course explores strategies to extend battery life, enable second-life applications, and promote circular economy principles through reuse, remanufacturing, and advanced recycling techniques. It covers the technical, economic, and environmental dimensions of battery end-of-life (EOL) management, including challenges related to battery disassembly, material recovery, logistics, and safety. It also highlights the advantages and limitations of key recycling pathways such as pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy, and direct recycling, and examines how design for disassembly can enhance recovery efficiency.

In addition, this course highlights emerging business models such as Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS), along with reverse logistics, transportation regulations, and traceability tools like RFID and blockchain. It also covers critical mineral supply chains, international policy frameworks including China’s GB/T standards and EU battery regulations and innovations in battery chemistry and pack design that influence recyclability and reuse potential.

This 4 PDH online course is applicable to automotive engineers, battery system designers, as well as other technical professionals interested in lithium-ion battery life cycle in electric vehicles.
