Dewatering and Groundwater Control Systems Installation and Operation
This online engineering PDH course provides an introduction to installation and operation of groundwater control and dewatering systems for a variety of infrastructure features and projects.
Proper control of groundwater can greatly facilitate construction of sub-surface structures founded in, or underlain by, pervious soil strata below the water table by: 1) intercepting seepage that would otherwise emerge from the slopes or bottom of an excavation, 2) increasing the stability of excavated slopes and preventing the loss of material from the slopes or bottom of the excavation, 3) reducing lateral loads on cofferdams, 4) eliminating the need for, or reducing, air pressure in tunneling, and 5) improving the excavation and backfill characteristics of sandy soils.
Uncontrolled or improperly controlled groundwater can, by hydrostatic pressure and seepage, cause piping or heave, or reduce the stability of excavation slopes or foundation soils so as to make them unsuitable for supporting the structure. For these reasons, subsurface construction should not be attempted or permitted without appropriate control of the groundwater and (subsurface) hydrostatic pressure.
This 3 PDH online course is intended for civil and environmental engineers as well as other design and construction professionals interested in learning about, or are involved in, the installation and operation of dewatering and groundwater control systems.
This PE continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Learning about deep-well systems
- Learning about wellpoint systems
- Understanding how self-jetting wellpoints are installed
- Understanding how vacuum wellpoint systems are operated
- Knowing the important applications of jet eductor wellpoints and vertical sand drains
- Understanding how cement and chemical grout curtain cutoffs are constructed
- Learn about slurry wall cutoffs
In this professional engineering CEU course, you need to review the document titled, “Dewatering and Groundwater Control Systems Installation and Operation”.
Once you complete your course review, you need to take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of fifteen (15) questions to earn 3 PDH credits. The quiz will be based on the entire document.
Upon successful completion of the quiz, print your Certificate of Completion instantly. (Note: if you are paying by check or money order, you may print your Certificate of Completion after we receive your payment.)
