Dam Safety Inspections Report Guidelines (BLM)

COURSE NO: G02-010
PDH CREDIT: 2
COURSE PROVIDER: Allen Hughes, P.E.
Dam Safety Inspections Report Guidelines (BLM)
Course Highlights

This online engineering PDH course presents the basic guidelines of dam inspections according to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The BLM owns and operates 671 dams, as well as inspects 300 privately owned dams located on BLM land. With the inventory of aging dams, maintenance and inspection become more critical. At the same time, the useful life of many new dams may be extended by regular maintenance of deficiencies which are discovered by proper inspections.

If you are new to dam safety inspections, the material presented in this course will provide important background information. The discussion of the inspection process is designed to provide the inspector with guidance for conducting a comprehensive inspection of an embankment dam.

If you have experience with embankment dams, the material presented in this course will provide a brief refresher on key terminology used in BLM embankment dam inspections.

This 2 PDH online course is intended for use by engineers, dam owners, maintenance contractors, operators, inspectors, dam safety regulators, consultants and landscape architects interested in gaining an understanding of embankment dam inspections according to BLM recommended practices.
