With more than 40 years of experience in engineering, construction, project management, nuclear facilities, and physical security, Leo Eden has built a career leading complex projects in highly regulated environments. He began his career as an electrician and electrical apprenticeship instructor before earning a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico and an M.S. in Management from Regis University. His early professional experience included electrical engineering, design-build construction, physical security, and infrastructure projects for DOE facilities and other major industrial and government organizations. Working towards 29 years at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), he has progressed through increasingly senior positions including project engineer, deputy project manager, project manager, deputy project director, manager of projects, to Project-Program Director 5. His LANL career has included leadership of major DOE/NNSA projects ranging from $24 million to more than $420 million, encompassing physical security upgrades, electrical infrastructure, nuclear facility installations, glovebox systems, major equipment projects, and facility construction.
In his current role supporting the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Plutonium Infrastructure and Technical Area 55, Leo Eden leads field execution for multiple projects involving new equipment and glovebox installations, commissioning, and deactivation and decommissioning within PF-4. He provides leadership for project managers, construction managers, superintendents, engineering and process organizations, and self-perform craft personnel while maintaining responsibility for integrated safety management, resource management, budget forecasting, construction scheduling, continuous improvement, and successful field execution. Among his notable accomplishments are leadership of the $74 million Nuclear Materials Safeguards and Security Upgrades Project Phase I, which was completed ahead of schedule and under budget; major leadership responsibilities on the $245 million NMSSUP Phase II security upgrade; management of the $24 million Power Source Assembly Area project, whose team received a 2016 Distinguished Performance Award of Excellence; and successful completion of the $85 million CMM1 and CMM2 projects at TA-55. His professional credentials include Professional Engineer licenses in New Mexico and Colorado, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification, and Master and Journeyman Electrician licenses.
