Power Cable Manufacturing

This online engineering PDH course provides a comprehensive overview of power cable manufacturing.
In this course, we will explore the entire manufacturing lifecycle of power cables, starting from the selection of conductor materials such as copper and aluminum, through the preparation of polymer compounds for insulation and jacketing, and onto the various extrusion, stranding, cabling, and shielding processes that bring a cable from raw materials to finished product. We will also cover quality control, testing, and performance verification, providing a complete view of how modern cables meet stringent electrical, mechanical, and environmental standards.
This 5 PDH online course is intended for engineers, designers, and technical personnel who are interested in learning about how power cables are manufactured.
This PE continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Learning about the different raw materials that go into power cables and how they turn into a finished cable.
- Understanding how metals are drawn and stranded to assemble a conductor
- Understanding how compounds are extruded over a conductor or an assembly to insulate or jacket a cable.
- Learning about various intermediate steps like fillers and cabling.
- Understanding how metal armour or sheaths are applied to a cable.
- Understanding the various QA tests that power cables undergo.
In this professional engineering CEU course, you need to review the course document titled, “Power Cable Manufacturing”, prepared by Wissam Geahchan, P.Eng.
Once you complete your course review, you need to take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty five (25) questions to earn 5 PDH credits. The quiz will be based on the entire document.
Upon successful completion of the quiz, print your Certificate of Completion instantly. (Note: if you are paying by check or money order, you will be able to print it after we receive your payment.) For your convenience, we will also email it to you. Please note that you can log in to your account at any time to access and print your Certificate of Completion.
