Audit-Ready by Design

This online engineering PDH course examines the principles associated with ISO 9001 based design verification and validation (V&V) within engineering project workflows.
Design verification and validation are engineered processes designed to confirm that project outputs satisfy specified requirements and that finished designs fulfil their intended purpose under real-world operating conditions.
Design risk varies across disciplines and project phases due to technical complexity, regulatory exposure, and stakeholder requirements, necessitating V&V activities that are appropriately selected and documented to address functional, structural, and safety-related design outputs.
This course covers the V&V requirements that are governed by fundamental engineering principles, ISO 9001 regulatory requirements, and project constraints, with compliance objectives typically achieved through a risk-based approach that combines calculation checks, decision matrices, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA). It also emphasizes the practical generation of V&V artifacts, evidence document compliance, and performance across four engineering disciplines: Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, and Environmental.
This 1 PDH online course is applicable to professional engineers from all disciplines, as well as other technical professionals who are interested in learning more about ISO 9001 based design verification and validation.
This PE continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Understanding ISO 9001's design and development control requirements and the purpose of V&V activities
- Distinguishing between verification and validation and identifying examples across engineering disciplines
- Familiarizing yourself with risk-based thinking and FMEA as tools for identifying and mitigating design risks
- Understanding how to plan and document design verification activities per ISO 9001 requirements
- Familiarizing yourself with design validation methods to confirm designs meet intended use and stakeholder expectations
- Explaining how to generate and interpret V&V artifacts such as calculation check sheets, decision matrices, and FMEA tables
