Axial Load Test Procedures for Pile Foundations
This online engineering PDH course describes various load test procedures, equipment, instrumentation and objectives. It presents various procedures for stress-controlled and strain-controlled type of load tests.
Load tests vary in their procedure, equipment, instrumentation, and load application methods. There are generally two types of tests conducted for axial loading, namely compression tests and pullout (tension) tests. Because of the non-availability of reliable procedures for accessing load transfer mechanisms between piles and the surrounding soil, or for determining ultimate capacity of piles, full-scale load tests are commonly conducted. In large projects, it is a standard practice to conduct pile load tests either in the design phase or during construction. The significance of a properly-conducted load test is that it furnishes the actual soil resistance at the site upon which design can be based reliably.
This 1 PDH online course is applicable to civil, structural, and geotechnical engineers as well as design and construction personnel working on construction projects that involve load testing of piles during design or construction phases of projects.
This PE continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Knowing various procedures and equipment for performance of pile load tests
- Identifying different setups and instrumentation methods for compression and pullout load tests
- Developing basic knowledge of stress-controlled testing procedures including slow-maintained load test (SML), quick-maintained load test (QML), incremental equilibrium test (IE), constant-time interval test (CTI), and cyclic test (CYC) procedures
- Understanding strain-controlled testing procedures including constant-rate penetration (CRP) and constant-settlement increment test (CSI)
In this professional engineering CEU course, you need to review the course document titled, "Axial Load Test Procedures for Pile Foundations".
